Third Anniversary Soon

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on May 31, 2009 by mdjasrie

This blog will be approaching its third anniversary soon. Its the only blog that has survived this long. Dont see myself abandoning it anytime soon.

Unchartedfutures.com is still dominantly hosted by WordPress. I just acquired a different domain name for a small fee in which i pay WordPress every year. The cost is about 15 bucks a year and it would soon expire coming this July. I have yet to renew it. I’m thinking of going one step further by hosting this blog to a proper host server. But i just dunno which one is the best one out there for the best price to suit the best of my needs. I also know nuts about exporting my stuff, adding content to my blog once its hosted somewhere else.  I also dont want it to be too much of a hassle maintaining it, since i forsee myself to be extremely busy in the near future to be meddling with all the tiny details in getting the blog up and running all the time. I want to be able to update quickly and effortlessly like what im doing right now.

If anyone out there would be wiling to give handy advice, tips or step by step guide on how to make the transition smooth, im all ears. I want to break away from wordpress soon. I guess its about time to reach another new milestone for this blog. I still want to keep unchartedfutures.com domain. I really like it. I’m just begining to get bored of all the cookie-cutter theme and templates that wordpress offers for free. I want to choose one out there that would really reflect the purpose of this blog.

ITS A NEW SHOE!!!!!!

Its just so wrong!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on May 29, 2009 by mdjasrie

There was one time, i was going back home. I was waiting for the train on the platform, so naturally, out of  habit i would walk towards the middle of the platform. Suddenly there is this small girl, no older than primary 3 i guess carrying a small slingbag as her school bag. As i observed, it was a PRADA bag!! Thats just so wrong! I mean i have a good feeling that its not authentic at all, but cmon imagine if it was… ITS JUST SO WRONG!!

I had a friend who bought a Dior Homme prescription glasses. That’s semi wrong!! LOL!! But it was very nice looking for him and i had no objections to the design of the glasses.

Anyways, im currently looking for a new pair of glasses myself. I noticed that all the big brands are dominating the prescription glasses market. Even an average optometrist at the HDB shops are showcasing Dior, Prada Hugo Boss and lots of other luxury brand glasses. I’ve looked into a few shops myself and im currently eyeing closely on:

1. Ted Baker’s ‘Intencity” at a around SGD 210 for the frames alone.

2. Oakley’s “Dictate 2.0” costing around SGD a whopping SGD 410 for the frames alone.

Id rather choose the Dictate over the Intencity, but the price of really turning me off. Im still exploring my options.

Infamous (PS3 Exclusive) completed.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on May 27, 2009 by mdjasrie

This is what happens when you have so much free time right now, especially when i have 5 days leave, for the entire week. I have nothing much to do other than play the latest PS3 exclusive game, Infamous. Its an ill timed leave but at the same time, a good timing to try out the new game, which unknowingly, i managed to complete it before the week is over. So how good was the game?

Its very good actually, exceeding my expectations on what an open world gameplay might offer.

Im not really a fan of open world games where you can just explore the place and go wherever you like. Im more of a story driven player and i look for games that have a good story in them. However, i was pleasantly surprised that Infamous has a very good story to follow considering that its an open world game.

Im not going to intro you on the setting or the story, you can just google it yourself, but suffice to say, toward the end, it actually gets better and just after the climatic ending, you are definitely in for an unexpected twist, which in my opinion, is very satisfying. The story isnt draggy at all, nor it is short. You can easily clock in about 20 odd hours playing the game, even more if you complete every side mission it has to offer. Even then the 20 odd hours doesnt really bogs down the story at all. In fact, i feel that the story is concise, tight and easy to follow, with engaging and unique characters with very beautiful graphic novel like cutscenes to move the along. Voice acting is top notch and i like the raspy male protoganist, Cole in which you control the character in the game.

The twist toward the end is unexpected and it really accomplishes the goal in allowing the players to connect with him. In the end it was bittersweet for me to see Cole suffer and making life changing sacrifices. Yet he doesnt falter one bit and he gave a really big hint that sequel is definitely on the table, continuing his epic reluctant superhero tale.

You know, i was browsing though the modules that will be taught in NTU biological sciences, on thier webbie, and i came across this:

BS103: Organic Chemistry

Damn, i learnt that before… here’s the synopsis:

“The lectures will cover atomic and molecular orbitals, hybridization, covalent bonding, stereochemistry, alkanes, alkenes, cycloalkanes, substitution reactions (SN1 and SN2), elimination reactions (E1 and E2), conjugation and aromaticity, substitution reactions of aromatic compounds, radical reactions, chemistry of alcohols, glycols, ethers and thiols, carbonyl compounds, simple addition reactions, oxidation and reduction, Grignard reagents, aldol condensations, carboxylic acids and derivatives, amines”

It all seemed familiar. Its like.. 80 percent of those listed have been taught in poly. But here’s the problem

[I FORGOT]

And the first thing that comes to my mind right now is

The end of another great season of American Idol, the start of a great new series, “Glee”

What a great ending to the latest season of American Idol, with 2 male contestants with vastly different personalities and styles vying for the top stop in the competition. But in the end, it was Kris Allen that emerges top. I have genuine support and respect for both of them. Their differing personalities and singing styles offers great variety to the show, even till the finale. I love Adam Lambert’s rendition of ‘Mad World‘, but it was Kris Allen’s smooth and relaxing voice that won the hearts of the majority of voters on the night of the performance. While Adam Lambert choose the wild, risky side, Kris Allen, goes smooth and calm to charm the audiences.  Kris’s rendition of Kanye West’s song, ‘Heartless‘ was flawless and jaw dropping and i must say (unfortunately) better than Kanye West’s.

But that aside, i was browsing Itunes, apparently curious whether their songs would shoot to the top 10 of most downloaded songs. I wanted to know the full song list that both of them sang during the entire season, and maybe download a couple of American Idol studio version tracks. I expected Adam Lambert’s ‘Mad World’ to top the charts, but no, it was a song from Fox’s latest TV series, “Glee

What is Glee?

Well apparently like I said, its a new TV series which aired just after the finale of American Idol. Its a musical comedy, about a group of misfits who are good at singing, and trying to make big by winning the nationals in a choir competition. The teacher who took over the club named Glee, after the previous one was fired. He tries his best to recruit students who can sing. The teacher himself was part of the group when he was in high school. Late in the episode, you can see him struggling to decide doing whats right by finding greener pastures to provide for his family, or pursuing his passion for singing. The pilot episode was broadcasted on US TV networks, and since this is a musical comedy, there must be great music in all musical right?

Youre damn right!

I was shocked when a track from the series briefly came out tops in the itunes most downloaded tracks chart. It was a rendition of the hit title, “Don’t Stop Believing” originally performed by Journey. I listened to it and it was amazing! I watched the pilot episode and i must that this is a very promising tv series to watch. Though it only broadcasted the first episode. The entire series wont start till Fall of 2009, or around September. That was not only the song that was showcased. There were cover songs for Amy Winehouse’s ‘Rehab’, ‘Respect’ and songs from ‘Grease’. Overall its a very entertaining first pilot episode a series worth keeping track.

Japanese singer Utada Hikaru, diagnosed with acute tonsillitis, announced Tuesday the cancellation of her United States promotional tour that was supposed to begin next week.

According to Taiwan media reports, the Japanese-American who recently launched her album This is The One in the United States, initially planned to make her debut there with the nickname “Hikki”; she decided against it later because it sounded too much like “Hickie” (slang for love bites).

However, according to a release on her official website, she had to cancel the tour after being diagnosed with a relapse of acute tonsillitis. The Acer Aspire One Netbook

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on May 17, 2009 by mdjasrie

Ive always wanted to get one of those netbooks that have been the rage these days. With its cheap price, ultra mobility and long lasting batteries, its a perfect gadget to bring it with you wherever you go.

Best Denki was holding a road show at Ngee Ann City the other weekend and i bought my netbook at last! Costing SGD 888, The Acer Aspire One 751 model is the latest in the Aspire One series. Boasting an 11 inch screen with up to 8 hours of battery life on a single full charge, it would be extremely useful for me to bring to campus. I bought the diamond black netbook. It has that executive feel to it. The keyboard is 100% the size of a regular pc keyboard, making typing a breeze. In fact, this entry is entirely done on my new netbook, while sitting down at a cafe enjoying my cup of coffee. Typing is hassle free and its great if you are outside, and yet requires a computer to complete that last minute report, presentation or writeup.

The Acer Aspire One netbooks are highly recommended for those looking for portability, functionality and those who simply wanna surf the net on the go. It runs on  windows xp service pack 3, which is extremely stable and has the latest microsoft office 2007 as well as open office for my productivity purposes.

Im sure this netbook would last me till the end of my time on campus and most likely serve my needs really well.

Rant

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on May 9, 2009 by mdjasrie

I dont usually rant. I have a very high level of patience. But sometimes, while you are out, they are just some things that you  just cannot stand it right from the start. Ive mentioned about the MRT scenario, where a person would lean his or her back on the handle bars. That is just down right dumb, and something i dont tolerate especially when the train is full and you are just dying to grab onto anything to keep yourself standing upright.

This time there is something else that i truly cannot, to the bottom of my heart tolerate seeing.

You know, in this globalised era, and with Singapore being in the middle of it, its fairly common to see foreigners every where you go. Before i rant, i must make it clear to you that there is I have nothing against them.

As a driver on the road, you see very often cyclist cycling on the side of the road. These foreigners mostly from china and india sometimes treat those roads as if their ancestors lay claim to it before they are built. The way they cycle is downright dangerous and inconsiderate. As a driver i feel very scared for them. Here they are, having travelled thousands of miles from home in search of a job to support god knows who back home and yet they are not giving a damn about their lives. They cycle down the road as if its perfectly normal for them. In their country maybe, but for the love of god, this is Singapore, and all singaporeans should know that singaporean drivers arent exactly the forgiving type. I really would like to make an appeal to make them realise this fact and that they should value his or her life above anything else and use the farking footpaths!! What is sooo difficult about that?!

Yesterday i saw the ultimate of reckless cycling on the road and this aint the first time. Cycling on the road with heavy traffic, left hand gripping the handle bar while the right holding a cellphone to his ears chatting happily to whoever it is on the line. OMG OMG!! PLEASE PLEASE I BEG YOU LAR CONCENTRATE ON THE ROAD AND CYCLE PROPERLY! BETTER STILL USE THE FARKING FOOTPATHS! I dont care if are laujiau cyclist, but if somebody hits you, i dunno who to sympathise more. The driver or the cyclist. Now it sounds that i might mind my own business, and not care a thing at all about them, but you think about it, these kinds of acts, is downright ignorant and stupid. Imagine, this simple act of not concentrating on the road can claim someone’s life.

Whenever i see this kind of acts being commited, it makes me feel like intercepting them at the right moment, kicking thier bicycle, losing his balance, grabbing his cellphone and throw it on the other side of the road. Seriously, nothing is more precious than your own lives.
