Last entry of 2008

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on December 31, 2008 by mdjasrie

This would officially be my last entry for the year 2008. What a year it has been. After finishing BMT in end december of 2007, posted as a Transport Supervisor, undergoing the course till May and to a unit from then on.

Im looking forward to 2009. I believe alot of interesting things will happen in that year for me. For starters, it will the year where i will officially end my service to the nation and im dying to look forward to my new phase of life. Back to school, being an undergraduate at NTU. I should be an exciting time of my life an no less challenging… academically.

2009 will the transition year for me integrating back to civilian life. I wonder how it will turn out. But whatever it is, im sure i will take it positively and will no doubt enjoy my time being an undergraduate.

There have been talks about going for overseas trips and vacation with my family again. My last major vacation was on a trip to Tokyo, Japan. That was more than a year ago and i had a blast. My family is now looking forward to a short shopping trip to Vietnam, perhaps during one of those long weekends. But that will not be the highlight of 2009 when it comes to vacation. My family, if we can afford financially, might be going to exotic Turkey toward to the end of the year. It would most likely coincide after my first semester in NTU, during the semester breaks. But nothing is solid yet, just small talks here and there. We are still considering our options. Personally, im dying to go Turkey. I have told myself time and again that after the incredible Japan trip, my next must-go destination would be Turkey. I have looked up at the itinery of some travel agencies offering exotic trips to turkey, and most of them are around the 10-day duration.  Man, im so psyched. Im gonna save some money for the trip. If all goes as planned, this would be the furthest ive travelled after Japan. I can wait to see all those cultural and exotic locations. I want to see the Blue Mosque first and foremost. Id like to experience their unique East-Meets-West culture, a modern Islamic culture. The vacation would strictly be a sightseeing one, rather than a shopping holiday. Well, lets just hope for the best.

This post was done entirely from my iPod touch

Posted in Uncategorized on December 28, 2008 by mdjasrie

Using the quickpress option in my word press account, this post is entirely done through my iPod touch. Amazingly the touch sensitivities, the qwerty keypad on screen is large enough to type comfortably and with little mistakes. The auto spellcheck is also intuitive and knows the correct word to be replaced should I make a typo error. I’m glad I made the corect decision in making this purchase. I still find the iPod touch a little pricey, but considering the vast range of purposes and capabilities that the iPod touch can do, is a small price to pay. Those of you who love to listen to music, watch videos, surf and socialize though the various social networks will find the iPod touch a perfect companion for you. The added wifi capability definitely adds to the value of the ipod touch. iTunes apps downloads for the ipod touch definitely cements this gadget as the funnest iPod ever.

Missing my Ipod

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on December 21, 2008 by mdjasrie

So here it is, after so many years, i  finally lost something valuable. Out of sheer complacency on my part, i lost my ipod. Thats it, simple as that, losing my ipod. Some bastard must have stolen from my bunk, which, much to my demise, was scantily secured. Thinking that no one would ever come in my bunk without any good reason AND at the same time, leave with something valuable, i have become complacent. Id never thought that id lose something in camp, as heard and experienced by many who lost their phones, psps, wallets, shampoos, soaps etc.

Now, im musicless, i have nothing in which to listen to music and get my daily dose of music medicine. I find it kinda sad to lose. Its soo easy to become complacent. Being the only one staying in the bunk, having something stolen from you is the last thing youd think off. On top of that, my bunk is along the specialist corridor, a series of small bunks like mine, where the specialists, and clerks stay, peeps, whom im good friends with.

With that being said, i  have learned my lesson. I bought a super big lock to lock up my cupboard when im out of my bunk and im gonna get a new ipod soon, hopefully next month when i have enough cash to get myself the ipod touch. I have been eyeing that model for quite a while now and i think im gonna set my mind to getting it. Most likely, ill get the 16GB variant and i love the cool features such as being able to download new apps, surf the net, on top of listening to music and watching videos. Now, its becoming more multimedia. and i can finally catch up watching my favourite tv series, animes and all those movie clips stored in my computer.

Signal Patterns

I stumbled upon a very nice website called www.signalpatterns.com. Its simply a simple personality test in which at the end of the test compiles the results and generates a beautiful pie-dot chart of your personal traits in interactive flash. Each section of the pie represents a major personality trait and within each traits lies your level of strength of the trait represented by dots. If you answer a series of questions honestly and truthfully, its actually quite accurate. I like how the pie actually explains in greater details what individual traits that you have really means.

You can try and find the real ‘you’ in you. Click on this link to see mine.  Upon reaching that page, click on “Show my Patterns”  under the personality badge section. Whats your personality?

For a summary, my top ten traits are:

Scrupulous

You are an honest, fair person. You don’t lie or cheat to get ahead. You treat others with respect and hope for the same in return.

You do not feel that you are above the rules that everyone else follows; you are definitely not willing to do whatever it takes to get ahead.

Cooperative

You enjoy teamwork, play well with others, and prefer getting along to winning.

You’re not compelled to win every contest nor to be right all the time.

Responsible

You fulfill your obligations and responsibilities, are true to your word, and generally obey the rules.

You’re opposed to making hasty decisions, you don’t insist that you’re above the rules, nor do you feel compelled to color outside the lines.

While the majority of those who have a high score on the “responsible” trait enjoy traveling, they are usually very happy to return home — and don’t mind staying put for a while.

Organized

You like to think a task through before you embark on it. If it’s the slightest bit complicated, you make a list (even if it’s only in your mind) and methodically work your way through it. When you have a goal in mind, you’re not satisfied until you reach it.

You are not one of those people who ignore the details, and you don’t understand how anyone can get anything accomplished without thoughtful planning ahead of time.

Buttoned-Down

You like to know that everything is in its place; it’s somehow empowering to know that the world around you is neat and organized. For you, schedules and timelines are great ways to stay on track, and mowing down the items on your “to do” list is a source of happiness.

You do not believe that a clean, orderly desk is the sign of a person who doesn’t have enough to do; you don’t thrive on a sense of personal anarchy.

Upbeat

You enjoy being around others and others enjoy being around you. You have a “live and let live” attitude; because you know that no one’s perfect, you are forgiving and happy to give the benefit of the doubt.

You don’t feel the need to be controversial or express contrary opinions all the time. You see no reason to go around rubbing people the wrong way.

Conscientious

You feel it’s important to work according to a plan and finish every task, to do things correctly and thoroughly.

You are not the kind of person who abandons a project before finishing it, or slacks off when you’ve lost interest.

Innovative

You come up with a lot of ideas; if one doesn’t work out, there’s always another waiting in the wings. You often have interesting solutions to difficult problems. You’re practically a one-person brainstorming session.

You are less interested changing the world than in dealing with things as they are. Unlike those who spend all their time trying to solve problems, you prefer to zero in on things that work and stick with them.

Intellectual

You are thoughtful, rational, and comfortable in the world of ideas. People find you interesting to talk to. You’re the living embodiment of the saying “You learn something new every day.”

You do not avoid abstract conversation, experimenting with new ideas, or studying new things. It bores you to stick to the straight and narrow of what you already know.

In general, those with a high score on the “intellectual” trait are employed in such fields as teaching and research, and are enthusiastic about reading, foreign films, and classical music.

Sympathetic

You have a knack for knowing what’s going on in the hearts and minds of those around you, without their having to tell you explicitly. People tend to turn to you with their problems because they know you care, and that you will likely offer good advice and a helping hand.

You do not feel that people with sad stories are just looking for attention, or have brought their problems upon themselves.

Give it up to Akon’s Latest Album, Freedom!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on December 6, 2008 by mdjasrie

Previously, i never liked Akon. Hell i dont even support him at all in the begining. I never give much respect to song artists who use excessively foul language in their songs. I find it really uncreative and unnecessary, especially if it is used to sell a song.  I mean c’mon, youre a superstar and you have to resort to cheap avenues to earn your filthy dollars?

But Akon’s latest album, “Freedom” might be the first steps to embracing him as a great artist afterall. “Freedom” is his first album to NOT feature the “Parental Advisory” Sticker on the album. Meaning, the album’s clean (lyrically of course, there are still undesirable connotations found within the lyrics, but still i can tolerate that to a certain degree)

Well i bought it blindly, after listening to the wildly popular single that has been overplayed on radio, “Right Now (Na Na Na)” and the entire album is great! Upbeat and full of energy, representing Akon in every way imaginable. This is a hugely enjoyable album to listen to.

Fans of Akon, would no doubt love his latest album and newcomers like me, would most likely start to like Akon.

So after buying Keane’s, “Perfect Symmetry”, ACDC’s, “Black Ice” and Akon’s “Freedom”, whats my total damage so far today? Just SGD 49.90. Yeap you heard me. I got all of them, NEW AND LATEST for just SGD49.90. At a cool 16 bucks an album, its a major steal. Who could pass for such a great deal. I wanted to buy tons of other albums but i settled for just these 3.

ACDC Black Ice is good too!

I ve heard of ACDC for a long time, but i have never a fan of ACDC. I never find their unique vocals appealing. But somehow, this recent album, Black Ice, is not bad. I especially like “Rock N Roll Train”. Im starting to appreciate their works, especially their heavy use and emphasis on the guitars. For me, this album is a feel-good album.

Click here to listen to Rock N Roll Train. Its worth a purchase for this album. It features a rather nice cd cover sleeve and a total of 15 tracks, a number of them are very nice to listen to. Not many albums can boasts 15 tracks and sells at the same price as most other albums out there. Its a bargain.

Ooo
Ooo

I’m waiting
For my moment to come
I’m waiting
For the movie to begin
I’m waiting
For a revelation
I’m waiting for someone
To count me in

Cos now
I only see my dreams
In everything I touch
Feel their cold hands on
Everything that I love
Cold like some
Magnificant skyline
Out of my reach
But always
In my eyeline now

We’re tumbling down
We’re spiralling
Tied up to the ground
We’re spiralling

I fashioned you
From jewels and stone
I made you
In the image of myself
I gave you
Everything you wanted
So you would never know
Anything else

But everytime
I reach for you
You slip
Through my fingers
Into cold sunlight
Laughing at the things
That I had planned
The map of my world gets
Smaller as I sit here
Pulling at the loose
Threads now

We’re tumbling down
We’re spiralling
Tied up to the ground
We’re spiralling
When we fall in love
We’re just falling
In love with ourselves
We’re spiralling

Did you wanna be a winner?
Did you wanna be an icon?
Did you wanna be famous?
Did you wanna be the president?
Did you wanna start a war?
Did you wanna have a family?
Did you wanna be in love?
Did you wanna be in love?

I never saw the light
I never saw the light
I waited up all night
But I never saw the light

When we fall in love
We’re just falling
In love with ourselves
We’re spiralling
We’re tumbling down
We’re spiralling
Tied up to the ground
We’re spiralling

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Unveiled

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on December 2, 2008 by mdjasrie

Playstation 3’s most celebrated title by Naughty Dog Studios, Uncharted: Drakes Fortunes, has finally revealed a sequel, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Uncharted is a Playstation 3 exclusive title and features outstanding cinematics, great story, and gameplay, lush beautiful environments that really pushes the capability of the PS3. Of all the games that i have played, few titles can actually rival the oustanding title released by Naughty Dog based on technical merits.

Now you can watch a teaser trailer of the upcoming sequel, featuring the same old Nathan Drake, this time with a stubble, injured, bleeding, walking through the snow covered landscape, apparently trying to find a missing dagger.

The January Issue of Game Informer will see some juicy details of the game.
