BBQ

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on October 26, 2008 by mdjasrie

Yesterday was nostalgic. It has been quite a while since my friends and I had bbq over at one of my friends place. I had a great time over at his place with all my poly mates back together for a good ole reunion. But it was not all bbq. We celebrated a number of our friends birthday simultaneously, bringing gifts, well wishes and a very tasty chocolate cake from Bengawan Solo.

I helped my friend to buy the food over at Giant Tampines. Getting there was easy, with one direct bus from Woodlands. We met up at 2.30pm and by the time we got the stuff bought and started to head over at his place, it was almost 4pm. So we hang out for a while and soon enough, my friends started streaming in after 6pm.

The main highlight, which is the bbq started around 7 ish, and soon more and more pals came. By the time midnight came, everyone was here and had a jolly good time catching up on stories, gossips and office politics. It was really fun seeing them once again. Im really lucky to have them, especially poly mates. Its an achievement to still be in contact with them on a regular basis and on top of it the same few peeps that we also hang out together.

Went back home at 3 am in the morning. Had a blast playing Wii. Seriously, i now understand why Wii is a such a fun console, especially when you play in groups with your friends. No matter how lame, or casual the game is, it never fails to bring people together in the same room, laughing their heads off  and having a good time. I never expected or planned to head back home at around 3, but it was worth it. Its a great thing the Wii was there.

The food was good, the company even better and i had one of the best nights with them in a quite a while.

Revolverheld

You know, its a nice feeling to have when you discover a new band that you like. Regardless of what country they are from, music transcends all language barriers. As long as they make good music, music that you like, its good to me.

So just like Shinedown that i discovered recently, i discovered another rock band, this one, from Germany. Its called revolverheld.

I discovered revolverheld while i was playing Guitar Hero III. They had a track in the game, and it was under the bonus songs list. The gameplay to that song was really cool and i like the tune to the music. So with the power of googling and wiki-ing, i get to know more about revolverheld and managed to sample thier album tracks for a bit.

Revolverheld was formed in 2003. Its an all German band, and sings all german songs. I dont understand any of the lyrics, but they make pretty good music. If i were to compare to other band, they resemble closely to Theory of the Deadman, and probably shinedown. They even performed for the recent Live Earth in the German Leg of the concert in the city of Hamburg.

They have released 2 albums so far, one a self titled album, revolverheld in 2005 and their latest, Chaostheorie in 2007. The track that was featured in Guitar Hero III was called Generation Rock. You can sample the track by clicking here.

There are other pretty good tracks in their 2005 album. You can click on them to listen to it. Now, gimme some German looooove!

I love Pushing Daisies!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on October 12, 2008 by mdjasrie

Pushing Daisies is my current favourite TV series right now. The more i watch it, the more i fall in love with its quirky narrative, witty characters and fairy tale like drama with a huge dose of light hearted comedy.

Lost, Heroes, now its Pushing Daisies that is my current favourite and i cant seem to get enough of it!

Pushing Daisies centers on the life of Ned, a pie-maker gifted with the mysterious ability to bring dead things back to life by touching them. There are a couple of conditions to this somewhat unwanted talent, however. Ned quickly learns that if something is revived for more than exactly one minute, something of similar “life value” in the vicinity drops dead, as a form of balance. Additionally, if he touches the revived thing a second time, it falls dead again, this time permanently.

In the pilot episode, Ned discovers his gift as a child by resurrecting his Golden Retriever, Digby, after the dog is hit by a truck. He later brings back his mother when she dies of an aneurysm. However, he accidentally causes the death of the father of his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte “Chuck” Charles, as the “price” of keeping his mother alive. Even worse, Ned’s mother then falls dead permanently when she gives him his good-night kiss (which is how he learns the effect of the second touch). Ned and Chuck are separated; her agoraphobic aunts Vivian and Lily move in to take the role of her parents, while he is shipped off to a lonely boarding school by his father.

Inheriting his mother’s baking talents, Ned becomes a pie-maker who owns a restaurant called “The Pie Hole,” which he runs with the help of waitress Olive Snook. The restaurant is failing financially when private investigator Emerson Cod accidentally discovers Ned’s gift and offers him a proposal: Ned will bring murder victims back to life, inquire about the circumstances of their untimely death, then touch them once more, all before his set limit of sixty seconds is up. Emerson will then solve the case and they will split the reward money.

The scheme succeeds until they learn that Chuck, whom Ned hasn’t seen since childhood, has been murdered on a cruise. When her body is shipped back home, Ned revives her, but can’t bring himself to touch her a second time. Against his better judgment, Ned allows her to live and the larcenous funeral home director falls dead in her place. Ned and Chuck fall in love again and he brings her home to live with him under the unique circumstances of their never being able to touch each other. Chuck is extraordinarily grateful upon receiving a second chance at life, and as such she starts to appreciate life as a truly precious resource and Ned, witnessing his vivacious beauty’s happiness, begins to break out of his lonely shell.

I really love the art direction of this tv series. Its all so fairy tale and quirky. Everything seemed unreal and dreamy, very similar to Tim Burton’s work. And the narrator is just so loveable and delightful to listen to him telling the story of the show!

For those who have not watched this series, its a must watch!!

This October, prepare yourself for a major showdown in the video games industry. Personally im thrilled to be getting the Guitar Hero World Tour set, though im not getting the entire set, rather just the guitar and the game only.
